Event description
HomeFires: a special edition of HearSay: An Audio Festival of Reminding and Unearthing rooted in the mountain village of Kilfinane Ireland

About this event

#HearSayHomeFires is #NotYourNormalHearSay

We’re still here. You’re still there. But this year we cannot meet in person.

From 7th to 14th May 2021, HearSay HomeFires will take place online.

A festival of remembering and unearthing, HearSay HomeFires is FREE to attend.

The full schedule of events is here http://bit.ly/HomeFiresProgramme

HearSay is a unique live event that brings audio makers of all disciplines from all over the world together, with the people of Kilfinane, who host the festival and share their town, welcoming HearSay onto their streets and into their pubs and homes since 2014. World class audio in an Irish mountain village. Two communities discovering each other. A love of place. A love of sound. A shared space for new ideas and unexpected connections. HearSay is a kind of magic you can’t find anywhere else.

HomeFires won't be HearSay, it's not even going to try imitate a normal HearSay.

It's an invitation to listen, to connect, to drop in, to rebuild a sense of place, to renew a belief in life's possibilities.

In 2021, let’s check back in, reminding and recalling, in our rooms all over the world and in Kilfinane itself, what life is like when we open our ears, what community means to us, and what happens when two communities meet.

There will be a premieres of a documentary film on HearSay17, an exploration of dance and sound, a lecture that is not what what it seems, a new podcast, a sonic pub quiz, screen dance, audio baking together, and a virtual pub.

There will be 'live listens' to the HearSay Audio Prize shortlists with creators joining us from Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany,Ireland, Italy, Kenya, Norway, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland, UK, & USA to present their work before an announcement of winners at the HearSay Audio Prize Award Ceremony on May 14th.

All the audio works scheduled alongside the HearSay Prize have a Kilfinane connection. There will be live streamed presentations of pieces created over the last 25 years by visiting artists, in collaborations with Kilfinane people, created by artists from the surrounding areas, or made in Kilfinane for broadcast elsewhere. There'll be fragments of installations, reports from previous HearSays, features made for Irish Broadcasters pieces made for HearSay, rebroadcasts, remixes. Its a chance to immerse yourself in the life of Kilfinane beyond the Festival, revisit community festivals, hurling commentary, wildlife walks, community choirs, campaigns, strikes, lived lives, old folks parties, pubs, rambling houses, amateur drama, poetry, craft groups, musicians, local history, and soundscapes.

For those still under Covid-19 restrictions in Limerick, on the physical streets of Kilfinane there will also be a hint of summers to come with bunting and installations in public spaces to encounter.

With support from the Arts Council and Limerick Council.

We're digging in the archives, reworking materials, and opening our online doors to the world.

This year, we are bringing it all back home.
