Event description
IT Carlow and An Cosán are delighted that Minister Katherine Zappone will launch this Higher Education Programme funded by HEA

About this Event

Higher Education Pathway for Non-Traditional Learners: Flexible, Blended Learning, Competency and Community Education Based.

The project builds on the unique collaborative partnership that exists between IT Carlow, An Cosán and it’s Virtual Community College. The project marries the best of the methodology and philosophy of community education, technology enhanced learning, innovative third level practice, and the provisions of the Bologna Process. At its heart is the true meaning of the concept of ‘access,’ in all its facets.

The project responds to the needs of

- Mature adults

- With complex lives

- Experiencing socio-economic disadvantage and marginalisation

- Who have often had negative earlier educational experiences

- In local communities throughout Ireland at a physical and/or cultural distance from institutions of higher education, and

- Who, as a result, have been and are unable to access HE provision.

'The Institute of Technolology Carlow is proud to partner with An Cosán and the Virtual Community College to provide higher educational opportunities for those who wish to access higher education but whose circumstances - including cost or geographical location - do not easily allow them the opportunity. I congratulate all involved in this project as we search for a better future for participants, and enable them to find a voice and the confidence to play a part in crafting a future for themselves, their children, their community, and through that the wider society.'

Dr. Patricia Mulcahy - President, Institute of Technology, Carlow
