Event description

Description

Come and meet us for a fun evening at Inspire's beautiful office in the heart of Utrecht! We’ll be dedicating the evening to Ruby on Rails.

Part one: Implement "new" front end methods in applications

In the past few years, there have been a lot of new changes to frontend engineering. You can use npm (and lately Yarn) to install packages and transpile ES6 code using Babel. You can also now bundle your assets with Webpack. And if that wasn’t enough, React even popularized a new way of thinking about UI, with components replacing views. Unsure though if you can do all of this with your Rails application? Well, guess what? You can! During this talk Joralf Quist will show you how Inspire implement these "new" front end methods in their applications.

Part two: Understand the Four Rules of Simple Design

Like the pianist, golfer or martial artist, a software developer needs deliberate practice. Without it, she can't improve her skills and will quickly plateau. But what is deliberate practice? And how can you use it to improve your skill? In this talk, we will take a closer look at "Understanding the Four Rules of Simple Design" and learn the lessons it provides. Like a lot of forms of practice, this talk will lead up to a demonstration. This time with the aid of audience participation. So strap yourself in, open your mind and prepare yourself to engage your practice brain.

Food & refreshments included courtesy of Inspire.

Please RSVP on meetup.com!
