Event description

Description

The first session of this public information seminar will be presented by one of the world's leading migraine and headache experts, Dr. Stewart Tepper. The seminar offers a comprehensive overview of CGRP inhibitors, the first migraine specific preventative medication developed to date. CGRP (Calcitonin Gene Related Peptide) is a neuropeptide which is released into the blood stream during a migraine attack and it is believed to have a central role in the underlying mechanisms of a migraine attack. CGRP drugs block the activity of the peptides, which spikes during a migraine attack. Recent results from final Phase 3 clinical trials targeting CGRPs are still producing positive results, with these drugs expected to reach the US market in 2018.Dr. Stewart Tepper was a key advisor to the major pharmaceutical companies involved in developing these drugs during patient clinical trials in the US.

Dr. Tepper will also provide a comprehensive overview of other new treatments for migraine including neuromodulation, a relatively new treatment for migraine patients which involves direct stimulation of the nervous system with electrical signals.

The second session will be presented by Dr. Deborah Tepper focusing on “Needs in Education: The Headache Toolbox: 5 years experience”. In this session Dr. Deborah Tepper will draw on her professional experience as the author of the Headache Toolbox in the “The Journal of Head and Face Pain”, a publication of the American Headache Society. The Headache Toolbox is a series of articles published in each issue which focuses on a particular patient education issue and is a powerful educational tool for patients.

Dr. Deborah Tepper is a physician practicing at Harvard Beth Israel Deaconess in Cape Cod. She is Board Certified in Headache Medicine and Internal Medicine.
