Nutrition, Yoga & Essential Oils

Midlife is full of surprises – and not all of them are good … If you are reading this then I’m guessing that you are touched in some way by symptoms of the menopause – or more accurately, the transition to menopause.

It might be that you are really suffering or perhaps you’ve just started noticing some changes. The experience is different for every woman but often means being hot, cold, moody, tired, sleep-deprived, nervy, irritable or sad. It can mean hot flushes, memory loss, and a seemingly immovable band of fat around the middle and thighs.

Your fluctuating hormones are the cause of all of this, but you don’t have to accept these symptoms as the way things need to be. Learning to rebalance your hormones naturally will help you take back control of your life. Given life expectancy increases, women can expect to spend at least a third of their life ‘menopausal’ so it’s really worth getting the help you need now. Despite what you might have feared, menopause is not the death of your youth or vitality, but the start of some of the best and most powerful years of your life. In Asia it is known as the ‘Second Spring’.

For those who are not yet in their 'Second Spring', but are experiencing hormonal imbalance,this workshop is also highly suitable. Oestrogen and progesterone can be out of balance at any stage of life, impacting negatively our quality of life.

In this 3-hour workshop, you will experience the transformative benefits of yoga. Our focus will be on linking poses that focus particularly on balancing female hormones, strengthening bones and working on balance. All of which are extremely important at this stage of life. Essential oils for hormonal balance will be incorporated into the practice and you’ll get to take home your own essential oil blend.

During the second part of our workshop, we will look at the role nutrition plays in managing hormonal fluctuations. Weight gain is often a feature of the menopause and we are freqeuntly told that this is to be expected! This is not however something we just have to accept and put up with. In the workshop we look at the many things that can be done nutritionally to help balance the hormones which when out of sync contribute to weight gain. These hormones include, thyroid hormones, cortisol, insulin and oestrogen.You will discover which foods, herbs and spices are most beneficial at this time of life and the use of seed cycling to help balance hormones at any stage of life. A balanced blood sugar eating plan will be outlined and you will discover what’s best to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There will be lots of delicious and healthy recipes to take home. After the workshop you will receive a link to a 10-page ebook summarizing all the points covered in the nutritional part of the workshop and including a one-week menu plan to get you started.

Finally, we will wrap up the workshop with a Yin Yoga session. Yin yoga stretches the deep connective tissues between the muscles. The aim being to increase circulation in the joints and improve flexibility. Yin yoga teaches us how to be ‘comfortable’ in ‘not-so-comfortable’ places; a valuable tool in today’s hectic world. This practice also works deeply at re-setting the nervous system and is extremely relaxing. We will end our session with a relaxing yoga nidra body scan.

There will be a short break before the nutrition talk with refreshing herbal teas and homemade vegan treats.

Each participant will also receive an essential oil roller ball blend designed especially for hornonal balance. This essential oil blend uses the high grade Doterra essential oils.( Value 15 euro).


Timetable outline

  • 09.00 am: Arrival at the studio, meet & greet.

  • 09.00 -10.00 am: 1st Yoga session – ‘Balancing female hormones’. A gentle yoga flow practice during which you will be given modifications so that you can work to your own level, making this practice accessible to all.

  • 10.00 – 10.15 am: A short break with refreshing herbal teas and healthy homemade snack (recipe included!)

  • 10.15 -11.15 am: Nutrition workshop as outlined above followed by Q&A.

  • 11.15 am -12.00 pm: 2nd Yoga session – Yin Yoga and essential oils. As outlined above.

If you have your own mat you're welcome to bring it, otherwise all materials will be provided at the studio.

Do I need to be experienced in yoga?

No yoga experience is required, just a willingness to try. You will be given options for modifications and encouraged to work with your own unique body and breath.
