Event description
Launch of One Family’s Human Rights and One-Parent Families Guidelines 2022

About this event

One Family is holding a seminar exploring the experiences of one-parent families who access public services and examining how the Public Sector Duty can prevent discrimination and protect their human rights. One Family will launch two new, evidence-based guidelines aimed at improving the experiences of people in one-parent families when interacting with public services.

“My experience made me feel very low and lesser than. In a crisis I went looking for help and left feeling worse.” Parent research participant

As well as a presentation on the participatory research underpinning the guidelines, the seminar will also hear from parents about their experiences and what they believe should happen next.

“The impact of that experience changed our lives for the better. It changed the course of all of our lives.” Parent research participant

One Family will outline policy recommendations stemming from the research and give an overview of both guidelines – the first designed as an informative and practical tool for parents to use when navigating public services and the second to serve as a resource for anyone working in the public sector implementing the Public Sector Human Rights and Equality Duty. The programme will also include presentations from those responsible for implementing the Public Sector Duty.

Full agenda to follow.

This project has received funding from the Irish Human Rights and Equality Grants Scheme as part of the Commission's statutory power to provide grants to promote human rights and equality under the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission Act 2014.
