A Crash Course in Games Testing

A Crash Course in Games Testing is a 2-part workshop for anyone that’s interested in what Games QA is, can be, or possibly even should be. Whether you are looking to get your start in testing or have been chasing bugs for years: This event is for beginners just as much as it is for experienced leaders in the field. As long as you’re passionate about testing, I would love for you to join the discussion that will take on popular myths and questions circulating the games industry from time immemorial: Can everyone do QA? Is testing a stepping stone into other disciplines? How does one know when something is tested... enough?

Across two sessions we will be diving into the fun and sometimes taxing world of bug reports, playtesting, and shipping builds. As a brainstorming exercise to kick things off, we will be collecting your thoughts and ideas of what games QA is before covering the key factors to becoming and being an excellent QA person. We will also dig into the question of how to figure out your personal career goals & how to achieve them as someone who’s passionate about driving quality and stability in games projects working alongside many other disciplines.

To wrap things up and bring it all together we will also be talking about what constantly pointing out other people’s oversights can do to your mental health and how to take care of yourself in a discipline (and industry) that isn’t always kind to you.

Anna found her way into games testing after writing about gaming news, dabbling in customer support, and working in localisation for a little while. She's previously worked at Electronic Arts, Testronic, Media Molecule, Hangar 13 and Romero Games. Over the last decade she has fought for the importance of properly embedded QA within the studios she’s worked at and has led with empathy & passion. Currently she’s the QA Manager at Rare Earth Games. Anna is also a firm believer of making the games industry a better place for everyone.
