Event description
Conference Purpose: To ensure the ISL Act is the Real Breakthrough for the Deaf Community

About this Event

The Irish Deaf Society and the Centre for Deaf Studies, TCD are co-hosting an ISL conference on 22nd of June. The theme of the conference is:

Implementing the ISL Act and UNCRPD - Ensuring and sustaining the breakthrough

The conference was originally proposed by Andrew Geary and will be supported by the Department of Health and additional fundraising. It is an exciting opportunity to present and discuss opinions and thoughts related to the importance of the commencement of the ISL Act in 2020. We aim to attract a varied audience of stakeholders from the Deaf community including Deaf people, CODA, parents of Deaf Children, academics, teachers and service providers.

The conference will be held in the Joly Theatre in Trinity College Dublin on Saturday, 22nd of June. It will start at 9 am and ends at 4 pm. The conference theme will allow wide-ranging discussion but focus on two milestones: Irish Sign Language Act 2017 (and proposed commencement in 2020) and the UN Convention.
