About this event

Cork Dance Initiative - In It For The Long Run

Tuesday 29 June, from 12noon

Free event for Dance artists in County CorkFollowing their debut at Cork Midsummer - Cork Dance Initiative shares bite-size dance events in-person and virtually as part of In It For The Long Run, celebrating dance in Co. Cork and connecting with the West Cork dance community. Gaeilge agus Fáilte!Ensemble choreographies, caring conversation and bespoke performances reach across digital space and lockdowns. Including chance encounters at a market of ideas and the sharing of golden resources, In It For The Long Run is a series of free bite-size events that connect the whole county, from Ballyphehane to Baile Iarthach and beyond.Four Cork-based dance artists have come together to create Cork Dance Initiative (CDI). CDI launches with its debut event; In It For The Long Run at Uilinn; West Cork Arts Centre & Cork Midsummer Festival, a proposition for a grass roots dance collective in Cork City and County.Over the course of a day CDI will connect with audiences and the dance community in a series of live, in person and virtual bite-size events. The four members of CDI each provide an opportunity to creatively engage with an aspect of CDI’s formation.Lisa Cliffe focuses on what is needed to nourish and grow something new with a meet and greet stall outside Uillinn, West Cork Arts Centre.Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín engages in conversations about the value of dance with a series of short one-on-one performances using movement and text. Luke Murphy considers the principles that guide coming together in an online movement score which can be viewed and danced to.Ruairí Ó’Donnabháin questions the methods and philosophies that inform collaboration and the creation of CDI, in an online performance lecture informed by his neighbours and butter. The day culminates in an online gathering at 8pm on Tuesday June 29th with four members of Cork Dance Initiative to share the details of a model for a grassroots dance collective in Cork.

Organiser Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre

Organiser of In It For The Long Run

Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre is a hub of arts activity right in the heart of Skibbereen. Its two main galleries house contemporary art exhibitions that intrigue and inspire, presenting artwork by local, national and international artists and a programme of guided tours, gallery talks and free gallery resources such as the Discovery Box for families and Children's Activity Sheets.
The three Artists' Studios provide space for Irish and international artists to work on site and to meet the public and the Dance Residency brings top-class contemporary dancers, choreographers, performers and musicians to Uillinn to develop new work and present it to the public throughout the year.
The vibrant and diverse education programme enriches the visitor experience through workshops, masterclasses, dance and discussion platforms and encourages equality of access for people of all ages and cultures through its long-term programmes and projects.
Many of the programmes and events are free of charge.
Perfect for rainy day activities, or to relax and enjoy a delicious coffee and cake in the sunny, sheltered courtyard courtesy of The Coffee Shop at Uillinn, West Cork Arts Centre has something for everyone.
With an average of 20 programmes and events every week, keep up to date on all that Uillinn has to offer by following on facebook and twitter and check out www.westcorkartscentre.com
