Event description

Description

On October 15th, 2019, Create will host an information event for artists in relation to the 2019 AIC Bursary Award, this year themed on Collaborative Arts and Theatre. In this information session Áine Crowley, Programme Manager, Arts and Engagement, will outline the Bursary, answering any questions you might have about making an application. She will be joined by Ruth McGowan, Director of Dublin Fringe Festival, who are partnering with Create on the 2019 Bursary award.

The focus of discussion will frame the collaborative arts and theatre context, the application process and how a Bursary could help facilitate and support experiment, research and professional development. Artist Cathy Coughlan, previous Bursary recipient (Collaborative Arts and Dance), will speak to her experience and the role the Bursary played in the development of her practice.

Cathy Coughlan is a multidisciplinary artist working across visual arts, film and dance-theatre contexts to create hybrid works for gallery and theatre spaces, as well as devising site specific and community responsive projects Nationwide. Supported by The Arts Council Cathy trained as a professional dancer in the UK (1994-97) and continued her arts training with The National College of Art and Design, gaining a B.A. in fine art (2005), where her practice, deeply rooted in dance, primarily developed through video installation and performance.

Over the last 4 years Cathy has presented work in association with Rua Red Arts Centre, initially through the Artist in the Community Scheme Bursary Award (2016), managed by Create, with continued support through the Art’s Council’s Dance Artist in Residence Award (2016-17&’18-’19). As an artist working in a collaboration with communities she has delivered projects and performances in association with Visual Gallery Carlow, Tipperary Dance Platform, Tallaght Community Arts, RADE, Common Ground, Create, Focus Ireland, the Fatima Regeneration Project, Bealtainne Festival, Dunamaise Arts Centre, Dublin City Council, Dance Ireland and Coisceim Dance Theatre.
