Inspirefest Family Fringe brings together the leading Irish STEAM community groups: CoderDojo, Girls Hack Ireland, GameCraft, Soft Robotics Toolkit, TOG, Coding Grace, Arckit, TCD Walton Club and Dublin Maker who will be offering a whole range of activities. From coding and hardware hacking workshops to interactive exhibitions and games, there will be an abundance of activities for small kids (7+) and big kids too! Dr Niamh Shaw will also be performing Our Place in Space.

Admission to the Family Fringe is entirely free. We provide any materials and equipment you need. We do reccomend you register for workshops to secure your spot but there will be some spaces for drop-ins on the day.

Workshops (*Please only register for either the morning or afternoon sessions)

  • GameCraft Unplugged: Ever wanted to create your own game? This fun and creative workshop is suitable for adults and children. There will be some tabletop games for participants and guests to play and get inspiration from. Registration required

  • Girls Hack Ireland: How Smart Are Your Clothes? In this workshop you’ll find out how electronics, chemistry, computers, engineering and fashion all combine to create “intelligent” clothes. Suitable for adults and children 10+. Registration required

  • Soft Robotics Toolkit: Get some hands-on experience designing and building soft robotics with Soft Robotics Toolkit. Suitable for adults and children 10+. Registration required

  • CoderDojo DCU & Coding Grace: CoderDojo DCU and Coding Grace are coming together to deliver coding workshops for children and parents/guardians. No coding experience is required, children as young as 7 can learn how to code and develop creative websites and explore technology. CoderDojo and Coding Grace will be using a wide range of languages including Scratch, HTML, Python. Registration required

Interactive: Show & Tell Expos (No registration required)

  • Dr Niamh Shaw Our Place in Space: How was our Solar System made? How do we smash an atom? Did you know that we are all made from Star dust? Exploring the story of our place in space, Dr Niamh Shaw merges astrophysics with particle physics in a highly interactive event aimed at all the family. You are sure to learn at least one new thing about where you are in space...no matter how old you think you are. Suitable for adults and children of all ages. There will be two shows, one at 12pm and another at 2pm.

  • A Taste of Dublin Maker: Makers & Hackers of Dublin Maker will showcase some of their creative inventions.

  • Trinity Walton Club: Trinity Walton Club is a not-for-profit STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) educational enrichment programme for secondary school students who want to expand their interest in STEM. TWC students aged 13/14 will showcase their STEM projects at the Fringe.

  • Arckit: Be your own architect and test your building skills with architectural model making! Arckit is a hands-on tool for exploring architecture and developing STEM skills, making students aware of the built environment and teaching them the fundamental principles of engineering and design.

  • TOG Dublin Hackerspace: Tog will have an interactive showcase of their innovative projects.


*Please note that this event is strictly limited to over 5 year old children. Children & under 18s must be accompanied by a guardian at all times, unaccompanied minors will NOT gain entry into Inspirefest Family Fringe.
