Focus on Fungi!

Each autumn the International Mushroom Festival brings mushroom experts and mushroom lovers from all over the world to the beautiful, centuries-old, Killegar Estate in County Leitrim to exchange scientific knowledge and celebrate our natural environment.

Join Ireland's top mushroom, wildlife and forestry experts on forays through ancient native woodland. Learn about the mysterious role of fungi in the forest ecological cycle. Sample mouth-watering new dishes at our cookery demonstrations. Help your children become attuned to the natural world with OWLS (Outdoor, Wildlife, Learning and Survival) Nature Club.

International Mushroom Festival

The International Mushroom Festival takes place each autumn in order to educate people about foraging for edible wild mushrooms and teach them which ones are safe to eat and which are best avoided.

The aim is to give people the same confidence they have to hunt for edible mushrooms and they have picking wild blackberries. The festival attracts visitors to this beautiful but remote part of the North West of Ireland, so far largely undiscovered by tourists.

It also raises funds to save a precious piece of Irish heritage.
