About this event
These weekend courses take place at the beautiful Tracton Arts Centre, in County Cork, where participants of all ages and backgrounds will be guided through the full process of selecting an appropriate stone, creating and transferring a design, and learning basic carving techniques.
Depending on their vision for their piece, participants may complete a bass relief, or a more abstract sculptural piece, or will be advised on the completion of more ambitious pieces at home.
DATES:
There is a choice of two weekends:
Friday 14th August / Saturday 15th / Sunday 16th August
or
Friday 21st / Saturday 22nd / Sunday 23rd August
TIMES:
Friday: evening 7- 9 pm.
Saturday: 10 am - 5 pm.
Sunday: 10 am - 4 pm.
FACILITATOR:
Stone carver Tommy Lysaght has been involved with stone for over 20 years, working in dry stone construction and restoration.
Tommy works with a wide range of groups, including young people, adult education, the Simon Community, Headway, and the Cork Life Centre, and Cork ETB. He is constantly inspired by seeing people overcome their fears of working in such a daunting medium, to the realisation of their ideas in a beautiful natural material.
COSTS:
€200 per person, including all materials, stone, and a light lunch.
There will be a maximum of 8 participants per workshop.
