Introduction to Strength and Conditioning for Physiotherapists

About this event
This one day workshop will introduce the key principles of strength and conditioning (S&C) and is targeted at physiotherapists and athletic therapists who wish to enhance their knowledge in this area. There will be a combination of theory and practical sessions with a focus on how the clinician can practically apply the information covered in the workshop. The key topics covered on the day include the following:
Principles of training
Periodisation of training
Monitoring of training to prevent injury and enhance performance
Principles of strength, power, hypertrophy and muscular endurance development
Technical aspects of key strength exercises
Plyometric training
Speed training
The structure of the worksh0p is detailed below.
10.00-10.15: Registration
10.15-11.30: Lecture on principles of training, periodisation, monitoring and program design for strength, power, hypertrophy and muscular endurance
11.30-12.30: Practical on technique of key strength exercises, such as the hex deadlift and romanian deadlift
12.30-13.30: Break
13.30-14.00: Lecture on plyometric training
14.00-14.45: Practical related to plyometric training
14.45-15.00: Break
15.00-15.30: Lecture on speed training
15.30-16.30: Practical session on speed training
All participants will be provided with a resource pack at the workshop containing all lecture notes, related research articles and relevant video clips. Refreshments/ lunch are NOT provided on the day.
