About IrDEA
District energy systems are utilised widely across European cities and towns to deliver low-carbon, low-cost heating and cooling to homes and businesses. District energy systems allow integration of any and all sources of heat; it is fuel and technology agnostic, meaning it supports the implementation of heat from all renewable and low-carbon sources.
There is currently enough excess heat in Ireland to meet over 50% of our heating demands, and this figure is growing with increased industrial activity.
This is why district heating is so important for the future of the Irish energy system and the Irish District Energy Association (IrDEA) is here to make it happen. IrDEA was set up by its Directors, Dr David Connolly and Donna Gartland, in 2017.
Dr David Connolly led the Heat Roadmap Europe project, which has been one of the most influential EU projects in the district heating sector. Donna Gartland is CEO of the Dublin energy agency Codema and has been a driving force in progressing district heating development in the Dublin Region, including the Tallaght District Heating Scheme, which is the first large-scale district heating network of its kind in Ireland.
