Event description

Description

Ireland’s geology is represented by museum specimens. These specimens have labels with people’s names. Who were these people? Who had Irish minerals and fossils named after them? Genealogy can help.

This talk by Dr. Patrick Roycroft will tell how genealogy has significantly helped Irish geologists and geology museum curators. It will also introduce the audience to an exciting project in which they themselves can participate in unravelling the lesser-known figures of Irish geology (and related sciences) and so build up a more complete who’s who relating to Ireland’s natural history.
