Join journalists Malachy Browne of the New York Times, and Donie O’Sullivan of CNN as they discuss the roles and responsibilities of foreign journalists in the United States today. Their discussion will reflect on their reporting of the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021 and the climate of American politics, and their ongoing work.
Donie O’Sullivan is an Emmy-nominated journalist working for CNN in New York. Originally from Cahersiveen, Co Kerry, he graduated from University College Dublin in 2012 and has a master’s in Political Science from Queen's University Belfast. He worked for Storyful in Dublin and New York before joining CNN in 2016. He has covered the impact of social media on politics and reported on the 2021 United States Capitol attack.
Malachy Browne is a Pulitzer prize-winning Irish journalist and video producer with The New York Times. In 2021, he co-directed Day of Rage, an Oscar-shortlisted documentary on the riot that engulfed the US Capitol. The film used 3,000 mobile phone videos, live streams, security footage, police radio chatter, and other reporting to give a chilling portrait of the January 6 attack.
