The Irish Research Network in Childhood Bilingualism is a network of researchers from a wide range of disciplines, policy makers, teachers, early childhood educators, educational psychologists and speech and language therapists who have an interest in advancing knowledge and improving practices in the area of childhood bilingualism.

The first meeting of the network will take place on 12th January at the Trinity Long Room Hub, Trinity College.

10:30-11:30 Keynote talk, Prof. Enlli Thomas, University of Bangor, Childhood bilingualism: key observations from the Welsh-English context

11:30-12:30 Presentations by Prof. Nóirín Hayes (Visiting professor, TCD and Professor Emeritus, DIT); Maureen Burgess (Research Programme Officer, TCD); Laura Longworth (Commissioning Editor and Rights Manager, Multilingual Matters)

12:30-1:15 Lunch

1:15-3:30 Working groups (topics include EAL; immersion education; socio-cultural aspects of bilingual language use; language acquisition and language impairment)


3:30-3:45 Closing remarks

The meeting is funded by the Trinity Long Room Hub and by the Teaching Council.
