About this event
Promoting research and education in the field of human genetics and providing a forum for those professionally involved in human genetics and molecular medicine.
The event brings together the clinical and research human genetics communities in Ireland, and provides delegates an opportunity to present, discuss and debate the challenges and opportunities associated with human genetics in Ireland.
This year due to the COVID-19 pandemic the conference will again run entirely online on the same platform as ISHG 2020.
Keynote speakers will be:
- Professor Dame Sue Hill OBE PhD DSC CBiol FRSB Hon FRCP Hon FRCPath
Chief Scientific Officer for England – providing expert clinical scientific advice across the health system and head of profession for the healthcare science workforce in the NHS and associated bodies – embracing more than 50 separate scientific specialisms. Prof Hill is the Senior Responsible Officer for Genomics in NHS England, leading developments in this area, having previously established the NHS Genomic Medicine Centres and led the NHS contribution to the 100,000 Genomes Project. She is a respiratory scientist by background with an international academic and clinical research reputation (taken from nhs.co.uk).
- Professor David Reich
Professor in the department of genetics at the Harvard Medical School, and an associate of the Broad Institute. Prof Reich received the Dan David Prize in 2017, the NAS Award in Molecular Biology, the Wiley Prize, and the Darwin–Wallace Medal in 2019. He has pioneered techniques to study ancient DNA to trace ancient human migrations. His work has revealed how population mixtures shaped modern humans and illuminated disease risk factors across populations. He started the first cutting-edge laboratory for studying ancient human DNA in the United States. Founded in 2013, the lab has already collected genome-wide data on more than 6,000 ancient humans and has produced more than half the world’s published human ancient DNA data (taken from nasonline.org).
