About this event

Flourishing after the pandemic: nature and music activities to improve your own and your residents’ mental health

Flourishing after the pandemic is a webinar series brought to you by Engaging Dementia and Joyce Fitzpatrick to help nursing home professionals move forward in the post-pandemic world. In our monthly meetings, we will provide networking opportunities and practical resources to improve your wellbeing, and present new strategies based on music and nature to create social and individual programmes for your residents.

A qualified Social and Therapeutic Horticulturist, Joyce Fitzpatrick has been setting up garden spaces and activities programmes for hundreds of older people resident in nursing homes in Ireland for the past 20 years. Throughout her career, Joyce has researched and witnessed the different ways in which nature and music can help people healing and recovering from trauma.

The past two years of lockdown and isolation have been tough on everybody, in particular on older people and those caring for them. Residents in nursing homes have suffered from the lack of interaction with their families and fear of the unknown. Nursing home professionals on the other hand went above and beyond to care for them in the best possible way, while dealing with their own fear and grief. It’s not surprising to learn that the Covid 19 pandemic has caused an increase in stress, anxiety and depression among senior adults’ and healthcare professionals and we need to develop new coping strategies to help contrast these negative effects.

As we emerge into a new normal we need a template for how to move forward, and Nature and Music can provide the road map.

The Flourishing after the pandemic series will run from March until December 2022 and the programme alternates networking sessions on specific topics, mindfulness sessions to support your mental health and practical sessions in which Joyce Fitzpatrick will share with you inspiring ideas, activities and ways to use nature and music to increase engagement of your residents.

The subscription to the series will also give you access to our online portal. A private space where you will have the chance to communicate with other subscribers in a safe manner and enjoy our practical resources and articles.
