Question 1

How do I arrange payment for the weekend?

Accepted Answer

You book to get on the course with IWDG here on Eventbrite . Your next step depends on whether or not you wish to stay at CECAS. If you do, then you should contact them  by email: info@cecas.ie, to book your room & food requirements. They will send you a fund request directly.

Question 2

Can I get to CECAS venue on public transport?

Accepted Answer

Yes, on the west Cork bus (direction Skibbereen), getting off at Leap village and from there walking west, the entrance is about a 3-4 minute walk,  and then a lovely 10 minute walk through the grounds will get you to the main building. We can sort you with a lift for the return leg Sunday to Cork.

Question 3

Are we likely to see any cetaceans over the course of the weekend?

Accepted Answer

What we see on any watch is largely down to the weather on the day. But over a weekend with land & boat based watches, you'd be unlucky to be heading home without having had some memorable encounters. The courses also coincide with peak periods for minke & humpback whales as well as basking sharks.

Question 4

What should I bring with me for the weekend?

Accepted Answer

Make sure to dress for the weather, so wet gear and comfortable footwear. Optics are important, so at least a pair of binoculars and a spotting scope if you have one, or the loan of one. Swimming gear if you fancy a swim (booties for weaver fish). Bring your sense of humour and adventure!

Question 5

Is there car pooling during the weekend, if I don't have a car?

Accepted Answer

During every weekend we have a cohort of people who do not have their own transport, which isn't a problem as we always arrange car-pooling to all course fieldtrips over the weekend. We'll can also generally find folk a lift back to Cork on the Sunday.
