On Saturday July 15th, Prim’s Bookshop will welcome the extraordinary Jack Ladder (+ Support) to Kinsale as part of his European tour.
Ladder, a singular character in Australian music, has released 6 albums to date on labels including Fat Possum and Spunk Records. Together with The Dreamlanders, Ladder’s 2011 album, Hurtsville, was short-listed for the Australian Music Prize and has been described as “an Australian gothic masterpiece” in NME and "a terrifying wasp-factory novella of disgust" in The Age. His latest release, Hijack, is another tour de force in Jack Ladder’s immense body of work.
Both sardonic and sensitive, Ladder’s tender baritone vocals span spindly folk, jittery-60's blues rock, gothic electro-pop, crooning new-wave and chintzy synth tunes. A master of musical narrative, he conjures lyrics that celebrate the absurdity of the human condition in songs that groove in subtle ways.
Ladder has shared stages and collaborated with some of the brightest names in the music business including Sharon Van Etten (who features on two tracks from Ladder’s 2014 Playmates album), John Cale, The Horrors, Angel Olsen, Weyes Blood, Father John Misty and Okkervil River. Ladder has also worked with Bill Callahan and features on the live Callahan record Rough Travel for a Rare Thing. Most recently, Ladder opened for The Killers on the Australian and New Zealand leg of their Imploding The Mirage tour.
Jack Ladder is unique. Jack Ladder is exceptional. Jack Ladder is a f*cking cool dude. This will be a very rare opportunity to see an amazing artist.
