WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS:

Workshop 1 - 16th Aug: Spinning Using a Drop Spindle (90min class)

In our first Heritage week Woolly Workshop, you will be shown how to transform fluffy fleece from a sheep into usable yarn for your creative projects. Using real Irish wool create your very own unique handspun yarn. We will talk about fibres types, preparing fleece for spinning and how to ply yarn. You will receive your very own drop spindle to continue your yarn-making adventure after the workshop!

Workshop 2 - 19th Aug: Natural Dyeing with Wool (2hr class)

In our second Woolly Workshop for Heritage week, we will be exploring the process of creating dyes using kitchen and garden scraps. You will be shown how to transform the colour of your wool using common plants, such as onion skins, red cabbage and nettles. You can bring along your wool from the spinning workshop if you have it, or else we will provide you with natural Irish sheep's wool to play with!

Workshop 3 - 22nd Aug: Weaving Workshop (2hr class)

In the final workshop of our Woolly Heritage week series, we will be using our handspun, naturally dyed yarns (created in the previous workshops) to create original woven wall-hanging art on simple cardboard looms. You will be shown how to make and warp up the cardboard loom, how to start weaving and even a few fun weaving techniques, such as rya knots, to add some personality to your woven art-piece!
