Kaleidoscope presents "Metamorphosen"
Wed 3 May 2017, 20:30 – 22:30 IST
The 9th and penultimate Kaleidoscope show of the season heralds a seminal piece of music by Richard Strauss, his Metamorphosen written between August 1944 and March 1945, the closing months of World War II. Originally written for 23 strings, this performance offers a chance to hear the rarely-heard string septet adaptation of the work as well as another jewel in the string chamber music crown, Mozart's string duo no. 1 for violin and viola. Four-piece vocal ensemble, Tonnta, present a programme comprising two renaissance settings of the Ave Verum Corpus (of which Mozart's own is arguably the most famous) and two contemporary works by Irish female composers- Éna Brennan and Alma Kelliher, the latter of which will be a world premiere. Completing this stellar line up is Laura Hyland's widely acclaimed Clang Sayne quartet, a group whose vocal/instrumental soundscape reviewers have dubbed "an uncategorisable approach to songcraft".
