About this event

Eddie, McGoo & Fitz met in college in UL in 2017, studying engineering. Thier debut single ‘flowers-fire’ was released the week before their final exams, and as they stepped out of their last exam they received word that they would be supporting Hermitage Green to 4000 people. They followed on with a sophomore release ‘eyes don’t lie’ and a double support for Hudson Taylor in little over 6 months since their debut.

The dissolution of Eddie's previous band, elm094, gave space for the three to convene on the new project, Kingfishr. McGoo's skill on the banjo, being a part of the National Folk Orchestra of Ireland, and Fitz's experience on the concertina adds a traditional timbre to the outfit which helps the band thread the line between familiar, and avant-garde.

Aptly named for the bird which frequents the river Boro in Eddie's native county of Wexford, the band serves as an attempt to disassemble the contemporary Irish experience.

The lads grew up on Mumford and Sons and U2 and matured musically on the likes of Dermot Kennedy, Ben Howard, We Banjo 3, and Bear's Den. The grand atmospheric nature of their influences is something the band are keen to imitate.

"There's a storied history to spoken word in Ireland that defines us as a culture. There's something of that authentic Celtic vibe that I think people are still hungry for. In some way that's what we're trying to get at, while keeping it fresh at the same time" - McGoo

"The best Irish release I've heard in years" - Willie Ryan on 'flowers-fire'

“Genuinely Phenomenal” - JC Stewart on ‘eyes don’t lie’
