KinoD 2020 - Weekend Kabaret

About this Event

What's happening?

KinoD is back with our most ambitious weekend event ever!

When and where?

From the 28/02 to the 01/03 we will be at the Black Abyss Studio, 73 Cookstown Industrial estate. Tallaght Dublin 24, to set up and run our lab.

About the venue:

We’ve really hit the jackpot with this venue! Located in Tallaght and available 24/7, the lab is a facility which offers all we need to organise and host our event. From meeting spaces to working stations, multiple shooting areas, props, a green screen, sound booth, a screening room, bar, kitchen and more.

Tallaght itself offers multiple opportunities for shooting and is located around 30 minutes from Dublin city centre. We will offer a bus service to and from the city center at specific times of the event.

Who is KinoD for?

Absolute beginners to seasoned experts, that’s who! This event is open to anyone willing to get involved in the filmmaking process. We will facilitate the completion of the movies but participants are invited to bring their own equipment. From cameras with lenses to sound recorders with microphones, lighting equipment, computers for editing, props, costumes, makeup and so on.

What makes this Kino different from our previous events?

It’s a new decade and KinoD is evolving so expect some changes to the usual format.

Our goal is to increase the overall quality of the short films/documentaries that will be produced during the session. As such, for the first time ever in Dublin all films will need to have their scripts submitted to the Kino team ahead of the session.

Script & Film submission rules:

All script to be submitted to kinodkabaret@gmail.com by 17/02/20

All scripts to be 6 pages max | No Exceptions!

Only scripts submitted ahead of the deadline will be pitched, produced and screened at the event

The scope of each script needs to be considered.eg. Don’t submit an idea that will require a crew of 200, a cast of 300 and 400 locations. You’ve only got 2 days to shoot and edit. Don’t go mental!

All genres accepted

Each script, whether it gets produced or not, will remain the intellectual property of the writer

The submitted scripts will be short listed for pre-production. We are aiming at selecting 10 short films/documentaries. The pre-submission of the scripts will allow us to start looking for crew members needed for each project.

In addition to the 10 projects, we also encourage attendees to create 60 second quickies which will be screened on the Sunday ahead of the main projects. The crazier the better!

The Schedule:

Friday Feb 28th : Opening. Doors open from 6pm at

Black Abyss Studio, 73 Cookstown Industrial estate. Tallaght Dublin 24

We’ll be kicking off with a pitching session and launch party. The 10 selected films will be pitched to the wider group at 7.30pm and will be followed by drinks and networking in the lab. This will be a great chance to meet the other film-makers, team up, brainstorm and attach yourself to the projects you are interested in or just get wrecked, whatever you’re into...

The Luas station is 10min walk (for operating hours: https://luas.ie/tallaght.html).

The area is also served by bus lines.

For the night owls, a Kino Bus will depart from the lab to town at an additional price per person. Details tbc based on requests.

Saturday Feb 29th:

Breakfast from 9am. Shooting day. Actors ready to perform, cameras rolling, sounds speeding …action!! Teams will be free to use the premises of the lab and surroundings, along with some props.

After the shooting, crews might return to the lab and start editing or hang around. There will be some snacks however we will not provide dinner on the night.
