Kirkos present Fluxfest, examining Fluxus and its legacy, and unleashing a new tide of Irish Fluxus disciples. Fluxfest is in the anti-art spirit of the originals, continuing the Kirkos tradition of exploring territory others do not dare to tread, creating an evening that will provoke deep thought about modern art and turn your concert expectations on their head. Fluxfest is a Happening… and more.
Fluxus began in reaction to mummification of art in traditional contexts. 50 years later this is still relevant, and Fluxfest asks these questions of a new generation while presenting extreme work totally new to Ireland. Our Happening in Temple Bar Gallery Atrium Space will combine works from the pioneers of the Fluxus movement (Yoko Ono, John Cage, Georges Brecht and Maciunas, La Monte Young, Nam June Paik and many more) with a collection of groundbreaking new pieces by Irish and Irish-based composers including Jennifer Walshe (who will be joining us as a performer), Nick Roth, John Godfrey, Karen Power, Elis Czerniak, Brian Dillon, Anna Murray, Jamie McHugh & Ailis Ni Riain (and more to be announced).
Pieces will be performed simultaneously, repeatedly, in an undecided order, and on all four levels of the extraordinary space in Temple Bar Gallery. We will blur the boundaries between music & other art forms and between art & normal life, multiple art forms will intersect: music, performance art, visual art, video and work defying categorisation.
Date: Saturday, 15th October 2016 from 19:30 to 22:00
