About this event
Connecting Communities with Peatlands has partnered with the Irish Community Archive Network, the Heritage Council and the National Museum of Ireland to encourage peatland communities to map their local bogs using the Know Your 5K online map. ‘Know Your Bog’ is coordinated by the Connecting Communities with Peatlands project, which works with communities across the Midlands to support and encourage engagement with their local bog or wetland.
As Ireland transitions from using peat as an energy source, we are inviting communities to share their knowledge and memories about their bogs. We are interested in stories and information about the places we live; what we did; who did what; what and who lived there; the sounds; the smells; and what it looked like. Heritage ranges from folklore, to crafts, to biodiversity, to architecture, but ultimately we get to choose our heritage. Anything your community decides is important to document about the bogs and their history will be welcomed.
In this workshop you will learn:
- about the Know Your Bog initiative
- how to upload a submission to the Know Your 5K map
- what type of content you can upload (text, photo, video, etc.)
- how you can create or find content for your submission
