Cork Nature Network is delighted to partner with the National Biodiversity Data Centre to present an informative talk on Ireland's ladybirds as part of the 2023 Lifelong Learning Festival.

This event will take place on Zoom.

Gill Weyman will talk about the main ladybird species in Ireland, how to identify them and where to look for ladybirds. She will also discuss the invasive Harlequin ladybird and its impact.

Oisín Duffy from the National Biodiversity Data Centre will talk about the importance of citizen science led biological recording. He will introduce us to Ireland’s Citizen Science Portal and its Ladybird Atlas 2025 project.

About our speakers:

Gill Weyman is the chair and director of Cork Nature Network. She is an ecologist and has a wide experience of conservation management having worked and volunteered with BTCV, Birdwatch Ireland, Friends of the Earth, Taranaki Environmental Education Centre and Department of Conservation New Zealand. She is a founding member of Cork Nature Network.

Oisín Duffy is responsible for the management of Ireland’s Citizen Science Portal and overseeing the delivery of the Data Centre’s data validation processes with partners. He provides active support to the recording network to improve the quality and quantity of data submitted. He also leads the Centre’s work on the development of new surveys to address existing knowledge gaps.
