Event description
An afternoon of Music and Song from 3 Masters of The Tradition

About this event

Laoise Kelly

is one of Ireland's leading traditional harpers and has performed and recorded with the foremost artists in Irish music from The Chieftains to Kate Bush. She represented Ireland at the World Harp Festival in Paraguay. She has 3 critically acclaimed solo albums, and is the director of the Achill International Harp Festival. In 2020 Laoise was awarded the TG4 Gradam Ceoil Musician of the year.

Laoise uses a new style of harp playing, combining the techniques of fingerpads in the bass and fingernails in the melody on a thirty-four gut strung Paddy Cafferky harp.

Mick O'Brien

Mick recorded his first LP with his family when he was 13 years old. He later joined Na Píobairí Uilleann, an organisation founded to promote piping, where he absorbed hundreds of tunes and refined his technique. His playing can be heard on numerous recordings with artists such as The Dubliners, Frankie Gavin and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

Mick has toured extensively and given master classes throughout Europe and North America. His highly acclaimed solo CD of traditional Irish music; "May Morning Dew" was released in 1996.

In 2003, Mick released Kitty Lie Over along with fiddler Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh. It was named No.1 Traditional Album of 2003 by Earle Hitchner in the Irish Echo.

Gabriel McArdle

Gabriel McArdle, a native of Co. Fermanagh in the North of Ireland, is a traditional singer with a formidable reputation in his own land. His repertoire of songs comes mainly from the Ulster, and more specifically, the Fermanagh singing tradition. There is a rich vein of traditional singing in the music of Fermanagh. Today partly because of the work of musical envoys, such as Gabriel McArdle, the colourful range of traditional music composed in the County occupies a prominent place in the canon of traditional Irish music.
