Music for Galway in association with Arts in Action present the Baroque music trio O’Brien, Robinson and Sweeney for a performance featuring music from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries including works by William Byrd, John Dowland and some old favourites, such as Greensleeves and Sí bheag, sí mhór.
Over the years these musicians have become well known to Galway in many different ensembles, most recently during the Galway Early Music Festival in the guise of ‘The Gregory Walkers’. Laoise is an award-winning recorder player and vocalist, and a lecturer at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama. Malachy Robinson is a dedicated chamber musician, as passionate about early music as he is about new music. He is a founder member of the Irish Baroque Orchestra, and has been the principal double-bass player with the Irish Chamber Orchestra for over a decade. Eamon Sweeney’s love for early and folk music began at a young age; picking up a violin at the age of eight, he moved on to the guitar in his teens and has never looked back. He teaches and performs extensively and is frequently broadcast on
RTÉ’s lyric fm.
