The Laureate for Irish Fiction presents

Giving Voice: Antigone and the dishonoured dead.

Antigone is a figure in Greek drama who begs for the decent burial of her brother Polynices, a rebel against the state. This first in a series of three Laureateship lectures looks at the play by Sophocles in order to discuss the role of the female voice in Irish life, and what it means to plead for the dishonoured dead.
