Symposium Theme: The impact of accredited professional development on assessment of, for and as, learning.
Please join us for stimulating presentations and discussion in three different break-out session bands:
1) Student Led Learning, where different approaches to assessment using e-portfolios, collaboration and other methods will be examined.
2) Effective Assessment, with talks on effective continuous assessment, CPD for lecturers new to higher education and the use of images in assessment.
3) AISHE (All Ireland Society for Higher Education) sessions will cover some of the contents of the soon-to-be published e-book.
Dr. Ciara O’Farrell, of TCD. Ciara is responsible for Academic Practice, directing and delivering college-wide initiatives and embedding the broader role of Academic Practice in the institutional change agenda. Talk title: Creating an Institutional Framework for Assessment of, for and as, Learning.
Professor Pete Boyd, of University of Cumbria, U.K. Pete co-authored an influential guide to assessmenet in higher education (Bloxham and Boyd 2007) which is used on accredited professional development programmes. Talk title: Assessment of, for and as, Learning: an International Perspective.
Professor Tom Collins, of THEA. Tom has occupied senior leadership roles in a number of institutions in Ireland and abroad. Talk title: Assessment: The Tail That Wags the Teaching & Learning Dog.
The LIN-SLL Symposium provides much opportunity for attendees to share experiences and discuss developments and innovations in the provision of quality higher education to an ever more diverse student body. It provides a forum for lecturers and support staff to meet and form new networks with colleagues from across the sector who face similar challenges.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
The Ashling Hotel is a short walk from Heuston Station. Irish Rail and the LUAS both stop there.
Please note there are a limited number of carparking spaces in the hotel car park. The rate for parking is €2.50 per hour, with a maximum charge of €17.50 per day and the hotel cannot reserve any spaces. It is strictly a first come first served basis.
What is included?
Attendees may attend all talks, keynote addresses and any breakout sessions of interest. Tea/coffee and luncheon are included.
What groups are involved?
The National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning and the Technological Higher Education Association (THEA) are kindly funding this event. Learning Innovation Network (LIN) is the organiser, Student Led Learning (SLL) is a special interest group of LIN and the All Ireland Society for Higher Education (AISHE) will be publishing an e-book for some of the topics covered in the Symposium.
