This bat walk and talk is hosted by Limerick Bat Group and will be led by Tanya Slattery.

We will meet by the carpark by the playground at 8.15 and have a chat there. Once we have shown everyone how to use the bat detectors we will head up to the house and see if we can find any lesser horseshoe bats emerging from their roosts. We will see if we can identify where they are foraging and head down to the lake to see if other bats are on the lake.

If you haven't heard the call of a lesser horseshoe bat then this walk will be a treat for you. Their iconic warbling song is like nothing you've ever heard before. We have some fantastic gadgets that can show you what a bat call looks like. Lesser Horseshoe Bats are a protected species (as are all Irish bats) and we will ensure that we are not disturbing the bats. You may be asked to move away from certain locations or turn off your torch for a period on this walk in order to prevent disturbance but only at safe locations.

We will bring the endoscope and if we see any trees that might offer potential roosting habitat while its still bright, we might have a look and see if there are any bats within.

We will have limited numbers of detectors for this walk so booking is a must. One detector per group so please just book one ticket for your group. For your own enjoyment and for health and safety purposes, please limit group numbers to 4 max. All minors must be accompanied by an adult.
