Event description
A celebration of live music & movies by young members of CanTeen, the national young people’s cancer support group, with special guest acts

About this Event

  • Original music created and performed by CanTeen members with acclaimed musician and composer Seán Carpio
  • Premiere of short films by CanTeen members with artists Seán Carpio and Alan Brennan: From the misunderstood outsider in "After Boo" to the light-hearted relief of "Billy the Bat" to the people that get you through dark days in "TechnoColour," these shorts with original soundtracks were created on Helium's award-winning community arts project
  • Special musical guests (last year Wild Youth brought the house down! Stay tuned to find out who will perform this year...)
  • Short documentary: We go behind the scenes on Helium's music and film project, hearing from the young people on how they created their film works and soundtracks

What to expect:

Check out the mesmerising performance below by Ashleigh Kiernan at our 2019 Home Sweet Home concert, singing her own Irish-language song supported by Seán Carpio (drums) and Liam Quinn (bass).

Background:

Members of CanTeen Ireland have taken part on our award-winning Two Suitcases Project for the last 6 years, creating films, original music and artworks. We made Life in TechniColour in the summer of 2019. You can learn all about what inspired the young people and the artistic processes involved here: http://helium.ie/2020/01/28/retreat-going-back-to-nature-with-canteen-ireland/

Life in TechniColour is produced by Helium Arts in partnership with CanTeen Ireland. The project is funded by the Arts Council, Dublin City Council Arts Office and CanTeen Ireland.
