Lifelong Readers 2.0 Final Conference

The d hotel Drogheda

Tuesday September 26th 2017

The Lifelong Readers 2.0 project (LiRe 2.0) draws from the experiences accumulated through the Lifelong Readers 1.0 project (LiRe 1.0) and aspires to encourage, guide, and facilitate the creation of reading cultures and communities among pre-teens, teenagers, university students and adults through the use of Web 2.0 technologies, such as wikis, blogs, Twitter, Facebook and other forms of digital/social reading and “book-talking.”

The final conference aims to disseminate the project and to highlight best practices, Web 2.0 Tools. These resources can be used by educators to promote reading through the use of ICT in a practical and transferable way among young people. One of the most important outputs of the LiRe 2.0 project is the LiRe 2.0 Toolkit. The Toolkit is composed of the following sections and will be discussed, presented and demonstrated during the conference:

  1. Introduction to Effective Reading Promotion to Children, Teenagers, and Adults.

  2. Guidelines for Successful Reading Promotion through the use of ICT.

  3. Review of Digital Tools that may Support Reading Promotion.

  4. Ideas, Actions, and Activities for Incorporating ICT in Reading Promotion.

  5. Resources for Reading Promotion through ICT.

The conference will also include presentations from project partners throughout Europe as well as guest speaker Stephen Howell. Stephen Howell is the Academic Program Manager for Microsoft Ireland since 2013. In this role he engages lecturers and students of all disciplines and levels with tech talks and curriculum advice. He organises seminars, presents at academic and industry events and has keynoted several conferences on tech education topics. Stephen is an advocate of Inclusive Design and Digital Transformation both in and outside the classroom. He is a graduate of DCU and a PhD candidate in SMARTLab, UCD on Computational Thinking education with kinaesthetic learning.

Lunch and light refreshments will also be served on the day. The conference is an excellent opportunity for educators to gain awareness and experience of the wide variety of best practice resources and Web 2.0 Tools available within the LiRe 2.0 Tookit and how these can be used in reading promotion and creating Lifelong Readers.
