A quick stroll through Irish identity as seen, in the works and subsequent writings of Murdoch, Behan, Joyce and O'Casey.

About this event

Iris Murdoch was born at Blessington Street in 1919. Her father, a Civil Servant and cavalry veteran transferred to London shortly after Iris’s birth and as the Irish War of Independence was intensifying. Our tour begins outside Clement & Pekoe Stores, with a view of the recently restored façade of number 58. Our next stop is on Nelson Street, where Brendan Behan set his Irish language play ‘An Giall’ and its more famous successor in English, ‘The Hostage’. No 7 Eccles Street home to Joyce's Leopold Bloom, one of the great characters of modern literature. O'Casey's Dublin Trilogy written while the author resided at 422 North Circular Road. Here endeth our tour.
