This lecture outlines the latest research findings concerning bilingualism, language learning and language impairment. In this session, participants will learn about some of the most common types of speech and language impairment, and will learn about the identification of speech and language difficulties in simultaneous bilingual children and in children who learn a second language during the primary school years.
About the speaker
Francesca La Morgia is a lecturer in Clinical Speech and Language Studies, with a specialism in bilingual language acquisition. Before joining Trinity College, she lectured in UCD, DCU and the University of Reading, where she was also responsible for the English branch of Bilingualism Matters. She is the founder of Mother Tongues, and training and consultancy service aimed at disseminating accurate and up to date information on different aspects of bilingualism among families and professionals.
