Have you heard of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? Would you like to know how to use them to strengthen your work, to support you in securing funding, and to help them become a reality in Co. Kerry?

This free workshop will introduce you to the SDGs, examine their relevance at local level, and highlight how they can be of use to you and your community group.

Introducing the Global Goals:

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, are a universal plan of action for people and planet to be achieved by the year 2030. The 17 goals were agreed upon by 193 countries, including Ireland, in 2015.

The SDGs aim to end poverty, combat climate change and ensure that we leave peaceful, just and equal societies for future generations.

Together, these goals provide a roadmap for communities & countries alike to follow for the next 12 years, encouraging all of us to make the right choices now to improve life for generations to come.

Why learn about the Global Goals?

• The SDGs help us to think holistically about creating healthy and sustainable communities for future generations, balancing social, environmental and economic needs

• The SDGs provide a common language for all people to use to address both local & global issues, and develop community action plans

• Awareness of the goals is becoming increasingly important to avail of funding and grant opportunities

• Understanding the SDGs empowers organisations to hold representatives to account, as well as strengthening the advocacy and campaigning work of PPNs and their member groups

During this 2 hour interactive workshop you will:

  • Become familiar with the SDGs and map them to local issues.
  • Look at how to align your organisation or group’s plans and strategies to the SDGs.
  • Explore how the SDGs connect to goals and targets in the Kerry’s Local Economic and Community Plan.
  • Find out more about upcoming funding opportunities relating to the SDGs
  • Receive free resources on the SDGs.

The workshop will be facilitated by the Irish Environmental Network and Cultivate, the practical sustainability organisation focusing on education and community resilience.

With thanks to Kerry Public Participation Network for hosting the workshop.
