About this event
A collaboration between Cork City Libraries and Fiction at the Friary to celebrate writers who published books during the Covid pandemic and were unable to hold a launch. Drop in and chat to local writers, browse for books and enjoy author readings during the afternoon.
Fiction at the Friary is run by Madeleine D’Arcy and Danielle McLaughlin
Madeleine D’Arcy is a fiction writer based in Cork City. Her début short story collection, Waiting for the Bullet (Doire Press, 2014) won the Edge Hill Readers’ Choice Prize 2015 (UK). Her second collection of linked short fiction, Liberty Terrace was published by Doire Press in October 2021. She has recently completed her first novel,
Danielle McLaughlin’s debut novel The Art of Falling (John Murray 2021) was Cork City’s One City One Book 2021 and is shortlisted for the Dublin Literary Award 2022. Her debut collection of short stories, Dinosaurs On Other Planets, was published in Ireland in 2015 by The Stinging Fly Press and in the UK and the US & Canada by John Murray and Random House in 2016. In 2019 she was awarded a Windham-Campbell Prize for fiction.
