Description

40th Cork Folk Festival Presents- Luke Daniels

Sunday 6th October, St Peters Church: 1pm Luke Daniels – The Polyphon Chronicles. An Spailpín Fánach: (upstairs) 3.30pm Box Concert: Presented by Con O’ Drisceoil with Luke Daniels, Tommy Cunniffe, Dermot Byrne €10

Luke Daniels began his career in the mid-'90s with the release of his debut instrumental collection Tarantella. His own recordings as a frontman made him a star of the traditional folk world and his virtuoso command of the melodeon led to a variety of session gigs over the years with artists like Ian Anderson, De Dannan and Cara Dillon. After multiple instrumental releases and over two decades as a sought-after session player, Daniels switched his focus to guitar and piano, beginning a dramatic shift that would see him reinvent himself as a singer/songwriter and released a CD of his own songs in 2014 entitled, What's Here What's Gone. While in Cork Luke will give a performance with a Polyphon, this is a 4ft-high mechanical disc-playing music box, developed in Germany in the 19th century, which sounds like a combination of tinkling, high-register keyboards and glockenspiel.
