Event description

Description

As part of the National Museum of Childhood Event Day, we invite children ages 6-8 to join us for this fun-filled art workshop.

Active learning and hands-on activities are integral features of this fun workshop. We begin with a toy or “Gift” created by Friedrich Froebel in the early 1800s. Each of Froebel’s gifts were designed to develop children’s learning through interacting with his educational toys. Gift 1 (pictured above) is an ideal starting point for an exploration of colour, tone and texture. Children’s predictions and experiments with colour theory lead to expressive paintings. A celebration of children’s work will be evaluated by both children and adults in the Mini Gallery after the workshop.

This workshop is suitable for ages 6-8.

This event is funded by the National Heritage Council and is part of the National Museum of Childhood Event Day.

Please note:

The National Museum of Childhood will be documenting their activities using film and photography. On the day, parents and caregivers will be asked to sign an optional consent form requesting permission for child to be photographed or filmed while in workshop

This is a workshop for children only, but parents and caregivers must stay in the vicinity of the Royal Marine Hotel during the duration of the workshop. Parents and caregivers must provide a mobile number on which they can be reached during the workshop.
