Majella Cullagh returns to Saint George's for an evening of seasonal music with the Bel Canto Choir

This will be second concert in Saint Georges for Majella Cullagh and the Bel Canto Choir, ther first being in 2019 when they thrilled the audience with a magical selection of songs and music. Our 2021 concert will be an evening of popular carols and seasonal songs, that promises to delight the audience.

Cork's famous diva, Majella Cullagh, started a brillant career singing. Her performances include Le Comte Ory (Adèle) in Glyndebourne; Così fan tutte (Fiordiligi) in Las Palmas; Massenet’s Manon at the New Zealand Opera; Le Nozze di Figaro (Contessa) in Leeds; Don Giovanni (Donna Anna) in Regensburg; Händel’s Amadigi (Melissa) at the Covent Garden Festival, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, in Lisbon and Oporto; Gavin Bryar ‘s Medea for BBC Scotland; La finta giardiniera (Arminda) and La gazza ladra (Ninetta) in Garsington; Die Fledermaus (Rosalinde), La Traviata (Violetta) and La Bohème (Musetta) in Glyndebourne and at the Royal Albert Hall; Poliuto (Paolina) at the Konzertgebouw in Amsterdam; Maria Stuarda (Maria) in London, Stockholm, Stuttgart, Antwerp, Dallas, Bergamo and at the Liceu in Barcelona; Roberto Devereux (Elisabetta) in London; Pia de’ Tolomei (Pia) at the Royal Festival Hall in London; Balfe’s Falstaff at the National Concert Hall in Dublin; Maria di Rohan at the Donizetti Festival in Bergamo; Alzira and I due Foscari (Lucrezia) at Theater St. Gallen and at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London; Le siege de Corynthe at the Festival Rossini in Wildbad: La Gazza ladra (Ninetta) at Teatro Filarmonico in Verona; Der Zwerg (Ghita) at Teatro San Carlo in Naples.

She performes extensively on the concert platforms in England, Ireland, Holland, Spain and United States, as well as taking part in several radio broadcasts for RTE and the BBC. She sung Huit scènes de Faust at La Fenice in Venice conducted by Jeffrey Tate, Les Soirées Italiennes at the Covent Garden Festival; The Death of Klinghoffer, La Morte di Didone, Rossini’s Stabat Mater at the Barbican Centre in Lonon with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and at the Amsterdam Konzertgebouw; Verdi’s Messa da Requiem at La Verdi in Milan and at the Amsterdam Konzertgebouw; Handel’s Messiah in Dublin, at the Royal Albert Hall in London and in Rome; a Recital at the Rossini Opera Festival; Rossini’s Stabat Mater at the Rossini in Wildbad Festival; Omaggio a Giuditta Pasta in Stuttgart.

She has recorded: Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Le Siege de Corynthe, Wallace’s Maritana and Mendelssohn’s II Symphony (Naxos); Mercadante’s Zaira, Zoraida di Granata, Bianca e Falliero, Pia de’ Tolomei, Il Diluvio universale, Adelaide di Borgogna, Elisabetta, Regina d’Inghilterra (performed in London for Queen Elizabeth’s Golden Jubilee at the Banqueting House), Mozart, The supreme decorator with the Hannover Band conducted by Sir Charle Mackerras and three volumes in the “Il Salotto” series (Opera Rara).
