Event description
Walk through the history and architecture of Ranelagh /Rathmines with Honor O'Brolchain

About this event

STARTS outside Sandford Church, goes the length of Marlborough Road and in to Muckross finishing outside the house there.

Through the 19th century the ring of what are now the inner suburbs of Dublin sprang up at a surprising rate as old landlords sold off land and the opportunities were taken up by many builders so Marlborough Road in Donnybrook was built by about a dozen different builders creating a variety of fine houses, from Georgian to modern, mostly as rental properties. This meant that an interesting collection of people lived in them as tenants including explorer, Ernest Shackleton, composer Frederick May, poet and pianist Rhoda Coghill and the great painter Jack Yeats.

Muckross Park has its own lovely history which is still being written, from family house to school and convent, it sits on 12+ acres, an island of creative thinking in this lovely suburb.
