Talks
Social Media & Mental Health with Mahon McCann, a Philosophy Doctoral Researcher in ethics and new technologies. Mahon is currently completing a PhD, having won DCU's Theology and Philosophy scholarship. He is studying the ethical issues of Social Media companies monetising users' attention.
Mahon will be speaking about this topic at the event on Saturday 16th July. While most may be aware of the connection between social media and mental health, Mahon has studied this area acutely. The social media model has changed a lot over the past few years, and it's of high importance that the changes in the near future at least attempt to address these issues.
Fitness, Nutrition & Mental Health with Andrew Mowatt from Two Chaps. Andrew started Two Chaps with his friend Costello in 2020, to form a community of like minded individuals who hold fitness and wellbeing of high importance in their lives'.
Their usual content consists of positive messages, fitness, yoga and meditation. Perhaps the most influential element, is what they eat on a day to day to maintain mental well-being. They enjoy and promote eating non processed, wholesome food and have started a food truck based in Bray serving all the types of food that they eat.
Mo' will speak about his personal experience and journey over the last few years and about the connection between nutrition, fitness and mental health.
The album will be presented in Temple Bar Gallery with a capacity of 70 people. All profits from the event, and 3 months of album sales will go to Jigsaw Ireland.
About the album
‘Why does my mind do this?’ is an 8 track album aiming to raise awareness to mental health in Ireland and beyond from a personal, societal, and a systematic standpoint.
The bulk of the album was written based off the stories of 6 people, all involved within music in Ireland to some capacity. The main idea was to break down these stories from the 3 main mental states - Thought, Emotion, Reaction.
The idea was to translate the stories into music, to achieve this I attempted to tackle each state using a different section of the compositions. The lyrics of each track tackles thoughts and also emotion, while the harmonies and melodies aimed to tackle specifically emotion. The sound design, structure and pacing of the tracks were influenced primarily by the reactions, both physical and mental.
