Description
Limerick-born singer-songwriter Mick Hanly teams up with pioneer of the Irish folk music revival Dónal Lunny on Thursday the 24th as part of their November tour.
Mick Hanly began his career inspired by 50s rock 'n' roll & 60’s folk music before turning to the Irish traditional music of his youth. He went on to form Monroe alongside Mícheál O’Domhnaill, and supported Planxty on their 1973 tour. Hanly then recorded two acclaimed solo albums and toured Europe with Donal Lunny, Andy Irvine and Declan Sinnott. Hanly joined Moving Hearts in 1981 as a vocalist and contributed his own songs to Live Hearts.
Donal Lunny has been at the cutting edge of the evolution of Irish Music for thirty years. He formed Emmet Spiceland in the late 60s before going on to co-found Planxty, a band renowned for revolutionising the public’s attitude to traditional music. In 1973 he co-founded Mulligan Records and has produced 17 albums for the label since then. He was involved with the Bothy Band next until 1979 when Planxty reformed and Dónal produced their three resulting albums. Then, in 1982 along with Christy Moore, he formed one of the most successful trad-rock bands Moving Hearts and produced their three studio albums.
