About this Event

Mo Bhagáiste is a bilingual drama based on Seosamh Mac Grianna’s seminal, autiobiographical work Mo Bhealach Fhéin. A native of Rann na Feirste, a Gaeltacht area steeped in Irish culture and history, Mac Grianna was an astonishingly gifted writer whose genius was cut short by mental illness. This drama deals with the challenges faced by an Irish artist struggling to be understood in an English speaking world.

Mo Bhagáiste was performed in February of this year as part of First Fortnight (First Fortnight is a charity that challenges mental health prejudice through arts and cultural action). This year was the first time First Fortnight took place in Donegal.

Pól Ó Gallachóir is a local writer, actor and director. His recent play, An Madadh Mire (based on the life of the notorious gangster Vincent ‘Mad Dog’ Coll, who was born in Gaoth Dobhair) whichhe wrote, co-directed and starred in, won this year’s Féile Náisiúnta Dramaíochta competition for Best Script and best direction. The cast won the overall prize for best acting.

This current production of Mo Bhagáiste has been developed and produced especially for the Mary From Dungloe Festival.
