About this event

ABOUT

An idea has been put forward to have a 15 minute yoga session in the mornings and which I'm happy to say we are moving forward with. The test will last for 2 weeks starting Monday 3rd till Friday 14th February from 8:40am - 8:55am. There will be no cost for the test. The location will be in the DCU Ryan Academy on the ground floor of Innovation house.

When booking I have each day separate, allowing people to pick certain days of the week. Please go ahead and book your place only if you are confident you can go on that day. If for some reason you cannot attend please cancel your place. You are welcome to book more then one day or even all the days. ***PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN MAT AS UNFORTUNATLEY SPARES WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR THE MORNING CLASSES***

Event: Morning Yoga (Test)

Dates: Monday 3rd February - Friday 14th February (2 weeks)

Where: DCU Ryan Academy, Innovation House

Time: 8:40am - 8:55am

ABOUT

Yoga is more about “feeling” than “doing”. Quite often in life we perform day to day tasks, including other forms of exercise, mindlessly going through the motions. In the 15 minute morning yoga practice I propose that we “do” less and “feel” more. It is my intention to take some of the fundamental yoga asanas (postures) and break them down into their component parts in order to explore them in their full expression and get a sense in our physical and energetic bodies of how they should feel as opposed to being concerned with how we appear when we are in them.

As we mindfully master each asana individually we can then begin to weave them together and explore the transitions between them building up to a more dynamic flow.

One of the biggest attractions of yoga is that it is accessible to everybody, regardless of age, physical ability etc. Although each asana has a key (the basic physical requirement) and an aim (where we intend to ultimately go) there are always modifications available for individuals of varying capabilities making yoga inclusive and open to all.

By using the time we have to focus on the foundations and building blocks of the physical yoga practice the participants should then be able to integrate this knowledge into longer one hour flows where the teacher doesn’t always have time to break down each asana into its component parts as the general aim of these longer classes is more dynamic movement.

Depending on expectations and what each participant would like to experience we could also explore some pranayama (breathing moderation techniques), meditation and yin (gentle) yoga where we enter fewer postures but hold them for longer periods of time (3-5 mins) to focus on releasing the connective tissue in the body (and quite often blocked energy!) and also the obstacles held in our mind to letting go…

LOCATION

The morning yoga sessions will be held in the 'Departure Lounge 1' room in the DCU Ryan Academy on the Ground Floor of Innovation House. The main entrance door in will be open from 8.30am and locked from 8.40am - 8:55am at the request of DCU Ryan Academy(during yoga). As this is a short class please try to arrive 5 minutes early to settle into the space (and yourself) so we can start on time and have the full 15 minutes to practice.

THE TRAINER

Rob Macdonald from VT IoT , a company based here at DCU Alpha, started yoga at DCU Alpha and has recently returned from India where he completed his training to become a yoga teacher.

PRICE

For the 2 week trial period there is no cost, but if the yoga does go ahead, the cost would be approx €2.00 per class.
