Event description

Description

Music in Monkstown is the brain-child of the RTE National Symphony Orchestra's principal clarinettist and Monkstown resident John Finucane, supported by other enthusiastic local music lovers. After five incredibly successful years, MIM will be back from 5-8 September 2019 for its sixth festival.

Our aim has always been to offer to the people of Monkstown and surrounding areas chamber music of the highest international standard and this year is no exception. Seven fantastic concerts, each bringing a different aspect of the world of music right to your doorstep!

This year we are delighted once again to bring some of Ireland's leading musicians to Monkstown. Amy Gillen, winner of the 2018 Young Musician of the Future is a young flautist and rising star. Hugh Tinney, Ireland's internationally renowned concert pianist will perform for us on the Friday, sharing some of the instrument's best loved repertoire. Ceybele's Flutes is our baroque ensemble this year featuring Miriam Kaczor and Fionnuala Mac Mahon on baroque flute and recorders respectively. The Sacconi String Quartet will treat us to some of the most treasured string quartet repertoire together with quintets where they will be joined by Emma Abbate on piano and John Finucane on clarinet. We will hear trios by Mozart, Khachaturian and Glinka performed by the National Chamber Ensemble. There will even be a rare opportunity to hear the Jiani Guzheng Ensemble a group of chinese harps performing their wonderful music. Not to be missed!
