DESCRIPTION

The Galway Music Residency is delighted to announce another Music & Musings series in association with the Contemporary Music Centre. This series of short concerts featuring the Galway ConTempo Quartet, emerging and established composers from Ireland and guest artists, begins on Thursday 10th May at 8.30pm in the Black Gate Cultural Centre. The series will present high quality chamber music in an intimate setting, along with opportunities to eat, drink and meet the artists and composers.

This first concert begins with an exploration of Ian Wilson’s work Her Charms Invited. Written in 2010, the work was ‘inspired by, and based upon’ ornamentations used in traditional Irish sean-nós singing. ConTempo will perform this intriguing piece alongside Ina Boyle’s String Quartet in E minor. The performances will be interspersed with conversations with Ian Wilson and the quartet, chaired by Linda O’Shea Farren of the Contemporary Music Centre.

The Galway Music Residency

The Galway Music Residency (GMR) was established in 2002 to cultivate a comprehensive music development programme for Galway, with a professional ensemble at its centre.  The programme was designed to bring performances to new audiences in Galway City and County and to broaden the experience of those already involved in music.  ConTempo Quartet was chosen as GMR’s Ensemble in 2003 and continues to captivate audiences throughout the city, county and beyond with its repertoire of classical, contemporary, folk and traditional. GMR also runs a vibrant programme of community and educational projects, engaging with young musicians and listeners of all ages.
